Adjustment congestion surcharge

Dear Business Partners,

In the last few weeks we have already informed you about the disruptions and the associated handling problems in the seaports of Antwerp and Rotterdam.

See our customer letters from 02.03., 17.03. and 29.03.21, which you can also access at any time on our homepage:

https://gut-gernsheim.de/category/neuigkeiten/

The consequences of the blockade of the Suez Canal will worsen the situation in the above seaports in the coming weeks and months, as many seagoing ships will arrive there at once and have to be processed.

The operators of the seaport terminals and the shipping companies are now all referring to strict adherence to the Cargo Opening / Cargo Closing Times.

In addition to the considerable additional effort of the constant checking of this transport-relevant data by our dispatch team, this means that containers from already planned inland waterway departures have to be rebooked or canceled, so that optimal / efficient utilization of our means of transport can no longer be achieved.
We can no longer bear the associated additional costs in our liner services alone.

Because of this, we need the current one Congestion surcharge for transports by inland waterway vessel in the amount of Increase € 15 to € 25 per container.

These changes apply from April 19, 2021. The day of departure of the inland waterway vessel in the seaport or inland terminal is decisive.

We would like to point out that these surcharges do not cover any follow-up costs how:

  • Relocation / storage costs / handling costs in the seaport (if the cargo opening time is not reached, containers must be unloaded at another terminal and later transported to the destination terminal).
  • Double the freight costs if deletion at another terminal is not possible and the containers remain in the ship or truck and have to be transported back to the inland terminal.

We thank you for your understanding and hope that the dramatic situation will improve soon, which we can only master together with you.

Our sales team is always available to answer your questions.

Dear business partner,

in the last weeks we already informed you about disruptions and the consequential problems of delayed dispatch in the maritime ports of Antwerp and Rotterdam.

Please compare our customer mailings dated 03/02, 03/17 and 03/29/21, which you can also access at any time on our homepage under following link:

The consequences of the blockage of the Suez Canal will worsen the situation in the above mentioned ports significantly as a huge number of vessels will arrive there simultaneously for discharging and reloading.

Meanwhile all terminal operators and carriers refer to the strict adherence of the Cargo Opening / Cargo Closing Times.

This means on one hand extensive additional work for our planning teams by constantly rechecking these transport relevant data. On the other hand as containers have to be rebooked or even cancelled from planned barge departures an optimal / efficient capacity utilisation cannot be reached anymore.

The additional costs linked to this situation cannot be beard by us only anymore.

Thus we will have to increase the current congestion surcharge for transports per barge from 15,- € to 25,- € per container.

These adjustments are valid from 04/19/2021 on, based on the departure date of the barge in the maritime or inland port.

We would like to point out that these surcharges do not cover any consequential costs for

– Truckings / handlings / storage in the maritime port (containers have to be discharged at another terminal and later on relocated to the terminal of destination).

– Double freight costs if alternative discharge of container is not possible and thus it has to stay on the barge or truck and delivered back to the inland terminal.

Thank you for understanding. We hope that this dramatic situation which we only can master together will improve soon.
